4-Year-Old Caleb Was Asleep in His Bed When Gunfire Tore Through His Charlotte Home
A quiet night in northwest Charlotte turned tragic when gunfire struck several homes around 3 a.m. Four-year-old Caleb Flax was inside his bedroom when he was struck. He was rushed to the hospital with life-threatening injuries but was pronounced dead shortly after 7 a.m.
Caleb’s mother, Bryanna Flax, was in bed with him when the shooting happened. She later recalled turning on the light and discovering that her son had been shot. Investigators said four homes were hit, and a woman in a neighboring home was also wounded.
For Caleb’s family, the loss has been devastating. His grandfather remembered him as a sweet, joyful child who loved riding his bicycle and watching football together. His mother described him as “a light,” while family members said he was her only child.
Police have not publicly identified a suspect or announced an arrest. Investigators believe more than one person may have been involved and are asking residents for information or security-camera footage from around the time of the shooting. The investigation remains ongoing.
