For decades, Jennifer Aniston has faced relentless speculation about why she never had children, often painted by tabloids as “selfish” or a “workaholic” who simply chose career over family. She finally decided to set the record straight.
“That’s not anybody’s business. But there comes a point when you can’t not hear it – the narrative about how I won’t have a baby, won’t have a family, because I’m selfish, a workaholic,” Aniston told Harper’s Bazaar. “It does affect me, I’m just a human being.”
The truth, she revealed, was that she had quietly gone through IVF treatments for nearly two decades, trying to start a family in private.
“They didn’t know my story, or what I’d been going through over the past 20 years to try to pursue a family, because I don’t go out there and tell them my medical woes,” she said in an interview with Harper’s Bazaar.
While adoption is often seen as the natural next step, Aniston revealed on the Armchair Expert podcast that it was never something she considered for herself.
“I want my own DNA in a little person. That’s the only way, selfish or not, whatever that is, I’ve wanted it,” she explained.
Now 57, Aniston says she’s made peace with how her life unfolded, admitting that having children “just wasn’t in the plan, whatever the plan was.”
